Time to tackle the will of God. You trying to figure it out? Great! Me too. Let’s dive in.
For starters, the will of God is actually not as complicated as we commonly make it out to be. The will of God, like everything else pertaining to life and godliness, begins and ends with the spoken words of God. Thankfully, God already spoke. He has graciously told us everything we need to know. So, let’s kick to the curb this whacky idea that the will of God lies out in no mans land beyond our ability to grasp. If you’re an American, you have a real good chance at locating His will in words. Just check out the religion section at Barnes and Noble.
Now that we’ve identified where to find His will, let’s discuss what it is. Throughout time, God has had special interest in doing what He does best: loving those He made in His image. God loves. It’s what He does, sure, but more so than that it’s who He is. True love cares to see others changed by the power of love. Simple principle, am I right? In this case, God cares to change the clay He created. An infecting chemical has defiled the clay. The Potter loves the clay; thus, He desires to see the clay cleansed again. God chases after the core of the clay: it’s heart. And if the clay receives its Potters hands to change its blemished form, the clay will indeed stumble upon love like it’s never known before.
What in the world does this have to do with the will of God? Glad you asked. Everything essentially. The ultimate umbrella will of God is to be in relationship with His clay; therefore, abiding in amazing love. What could be sweeter than that? Therefore, every division and subdivision of Gods will that we so desperately want to figure out falls under His will to love. To see the clay become like it’s Potter. These divisions begin and end with matters of the heart. Let me explain.
The will of God is not about your specific employer; it’s about working heartily in everything you do as though you were working for the lord. The will of God is not about your specific address; it’s about recognizing that the Fathers presence is your safe Refuge wherever you go. The will of God isn’t about a specific romantic partner; it’s about choosing freely to live faithfully with another until death does you part.
Instead of suffocating yourself with, “am I making the right decision?”, try asking, “am I living righteously?” I assure you, that’s a fine place to begin. God cares about the heart, because it affects you’re ability to live under His rainstorm of love. Would you rather make decisions freely out of fearless love or under the choking pressure of fear that you chose wrong?
Spoiler alert: God cares more about your will to repent daily, obey faithfully and love sacrificially than your will to be employed, buy a house and find your soul mate. I’m sorry, but it’s true. A job, house and spouse do not guarantee complete joy and peace, but being with the Potter does. You don’t need to go anxiously seeking things of earth to find God’s love. The will of God is for you to find His love through a prayerful heart, a trusting heart and a spirit of thanksgiving. Know where I got that nugget of wisdom from? A book from the bookstore. Plenty more nuggets where that came from if you feel led to pick up a copy.
